An Evening of Poetry, Music & Community: WORDPlay Comes to Bird & Beckett in Benefit of Options Recovery Services

On Thursday, March 26th, Options Recovery Services will be the featured beneficiary of a special evening at one of San Francisco’s most beloved neighborhood venues. Arts for More and Bird & Beckett Books and Records are presenting WORDPlay with Kim Addonizio & Danny Caron — an intimate night of poetry and live music raising funds for the Bay Area addiction recovery organization and the people it serves.

What Is WORDPlay?
WORDPlay is a live performance series produced by Arts for More, a Bay Area-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings artists, venues, and nonprofits together through the power of creative performance. Their mission is rooted in a simple but powerful idea: art is for more than art’s sake. Every WORDPlay event is designed to connect audiences through shared human experience — and to direct the proceeds toward organizations doing meaningful work in the community.
This month, that organization is Options Recovery Services.

Meet the Artists
Kim Addonizio is one of the most celebrated poets working today. The author of more than twelve books — including her most recent collection Exit Opera (W.W. Norton) — she is the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her collection Tell Me was a finalist for the National Book Award. Her work is raw, compassionate, and deeply human.

Danny Caron is a guitarist of extraordinary range and pedigree. He has performed alongside blues legend Charles Brown, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker, and many others, and has appeared on two Grammy Award-winning albums. Most recently, he performed on Taj Mahal’s Savoy and Maria Muldaur’s One Hour Mama: The Blues of Victoria Spivey.

Peter Barshay, Arts for More’s founder, is a respected Bay Area bassist known for his deep groove, lyrical sensitivity, and wide-ranging collaborations across jazz, blues, and beyond. He will round out the trio for the evening.

Why This Matters
Addiction touches nearly every community. Recovery is not a straight line. And art has long been a companion in that journey — a place to process, to feel, to remember who you are.
Events like WORDPlay are a reminder that healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in rooms like Bird & Beckett, where people come together, listen, and find themselves in someone else’s words. Options Recovery Services has spent decades providing the programs, resources, and community infrastructure that make recovery possible for individuals and families across the Bay Area. A night like this extends that work into the broader community — introducing new supporters to an organization that has long been doing quietly essential work.

How to Attend
